My son has been very interested in kites lately, so we got ours out of the shed, since we had a windy weekend.
If you’d like to give it a try eHow has instructions on how to fly a kite. You can get instructions that don’t involve running, but really who doesn’t want their child to run around a bit.
ABC and 123 has a roundup of kite projects if you feel like making your own kites, doing some kite crafts, learning the science or history of kite flying or many other activities for a kite theme. You could also try making the fish kite I posted about a little while ago.

I can't wait until Immy is big enough to fly kites. It looks like it was lots of fun and you have so much space to run.

Thank you for your comment on my Emergent Curriculum series of posts, I am so glad that you are finding them interesting. I noticed the link here to them as well, thank you so much.

For some reason our son never really took to kites when he was younger. In retrospect, I think if he had made his own, as you discuss, he would have liked them immediately (he's always loved making things). Your fish kite is just precious. Looks like a good source of exercise too!
