ingredients
water
sugar or salt
flour
sand
green split peas
stick of coloured chalk
variety of flower, leaves and sticks
anything else that seems suitable
  1. pour water into bowl
  2. mix in a spoonful of sugar or salt, stir to see the crystals dissolve
  3. mix in some flour, sand, split peas. Notice which things sink and what happens to the colour of the water.
  4. grind up a stick of chalk in the mortar and pestle. Add to the soup to give a nice colour.
  5. Collect and add flowers, leaves and sticks to make the soup visually interesting and nice smelling.
  6. spoon into small bowls ready to serve to garden fairies.

Wow! This is a super activity. The fun factor along with its simplicity puts this at the top of the charts in my opinion. Plus, it makes a great fidget-and-see introduction to the physical sciences. Great job!
